A SEX slave passed a note to a member of the public asking for help – which led to two raids on Cambridge brothels. Eight officers swooped on properties in Perne Road and Lichfield Road after the desperate tip-off to Cambridgeshire police. The note was handed in at Parkside police station and officers swooped, arresting two men for sex trafficking and immigration offences.
After the property in Perne Road was searched, officers went to Lichfield Road where another drama unfolded. The residents tried to escape through the back door but both were caught. A man was arrested and the victim of trafficking was freed and taken to a place of safety by officers.
The raids happened on Thursday last week (Feb 25) and have been hailed as a blow against the vile trade.
Cambridge city councillor Lewis Herbert, who represents Coleridge ward where the arrests happened, said: "It shows how neighbourhood policing is working in Cambridge, and how important it is for people to report suspicious behaviour and help bring sordid practices like this to an end."
A police spokeswoman said: "This was a great example of neighbourhood policing."
A 28-year-old man and a 36-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of people trafficking and immigration offences. They were bailed to return to Parkside police station on April 26 and handed over to the UK Border Agency.
