Ten people arrested in crackdown on modern slavery

TEN people have been arrested as police continue to crackdown on modern slavery. Officers searched 15 buildings across Lancashire, including four in Blackburn and three in Burnley.

Eight people, aged between 19 and 30 from Hungary, were arrested for immigration offences on Talbot Road in Burnley, who will now be dealt with by immigration.

A further arrest was made in Romania of a 27-year-old man wanted in connection with trafficking and sexual exploitation offences believed to have taken place across Lancashire. He was arrested on Friday morning and will be extradited to the UK into the custody of Lancashire Police.

While a final arrest was made in Evesham, Worcestershire. Alexandru Pitigoi, 24, of Waterside, Evesham, was arrested in connection with modern slavery offences believed to taken place in Blackburn. He has been charged with conspiring to traffic for sexual exploitation and conspiring to incite prostitution and will appear at Preston Crown Court on July 31.

Sixteen people were also given safeguarding advice and a further four women, all Romanian nationals, were removed from sexual exploitation. Two 18-year-olds were removed from an address in Holly Street in Blackburn, while two 20-year-olds were removed from a property in Hufling Lane in Burnley. ... rn-slavery
