Prostitute, 32, murdered lover, 71, with axe and hammer

A DRUG addict prostitute bludgeoned her pensioner boyfriend to death with an axe and hammer. After killing 71-year-old Derek Taylor, 'callous' Deanha Leanne Neely, 32, covered his body with a blanket and went on a spending spree with his bank card, the prosecution allege.

A jury at Preston Crown Court heard as Mr Taylor's lifeless body lay in an industrial unit in Blackburn, former Burnley schoolgirl Neely tried to cover up her tracks by taking over his Facebook account and sending out fake messages pretending to be on holiday.

Prosecutor Guy Gozem said the couple had met 18 months before Mr Taylor's death in January, as Neely was working as a prostitute in Blackburn. Having paid her for sex, Mr Taylor had invited Neely to live in the industrial unit he called home in Cross Fold, Blackburn. The jury heard the couple's 'on-off' relationship was 'chaotic' and 'violent'.

Mr Gozem said Mr Taylor would travel to Liverpool every week to buy drugs, which he would then sell, to subsidise Neely's 'serious heroin addiction' and supply her. As part of that arrangement Mr Taylor wanted Neely to stop working as a prostitute, the prosecutor said.

The jury was told the relationship came to a violent end on January 2, when Neely attacked the pensioner with a hammer and axe, shattering his skull.

A DRUG-addict prostitute who bludgeoned her 71-year-old lover to death went back the following day to make sue he was dead, a jury has been told. Deanha Neely, 32, admits killing Derek Taylor, from Blackburn but denies murder as she claims she lost control as she was a victim of domestic violence at the hands of her partner.

Giving evidence at Preston Crown Court Neely, formerly of Hollingreave Road, Burnley, said Mr Taylor had come at her with a hammer and it was 'him or me'.

During cross-examination by prosecutor Guy Gozem, Neely told the jury how Mr Taylor used drugs to control her and when he did give her heroin and crack cocaine it would normally lead to sex.

Neely said on the day she killed Mr Taylor, January 2, he had given her two bags of crack cocaine and a bag of heroin but refused to give her a second bag of heroin so she could 'come down' until she had had sex with him.

The court heard Mr Taylor allegedly said “you have pushed me too far” before going towards Neely with a hammer. Mr Gozem said: “If its true Derek came at you with the hammer, how did you get it off him?”

A DRUG addict prostitute who bludgeoned her pensioner lover to death with a hammer and axe has been jailed for 12 years. Deanha Neely admitted killing Derek Taylor, 71, in the Blackburn industrial unit they called home but always denied murder.

A jury at Preston Crown Court cleared the 32-year-old of murder but found her guilty of manslaughter on the grounds of loss of control.

Neely, formerly of Hollingreave Road, Burnley, was a 'chronic heroin addict' and Mr Taylor would travel to Liverpool to buy and then sell drugs to fund her habit, the court heard. He would then give her a daily portion of crack cocaine and heroin to stop her from going back to working the streets.

But the court heard how the pair shared a violent relationship, which included Mr Taylor twice attempting to run the defendant over, before the fatal night on January 2 in the unit in Cross Fold.

Judge Mark Brown, The Honorary Recorder of Preston, criticised Neely for showing a lack of remorse. He said: "The precise circumstances are not clear but I sentence you on the basis that Mr Taylor threatened to kill you and went towards you with a hammer in his hand, and fearing violence you lost control. Having done so it is clear that you must have picked up an axe and then struck Mr Taylor repeatedly with that axe and also in due course the hammer.
