Suspected brothels raided in Liverpool

Postby admin » 25 Feb 2017, 19:34

Suspected brothels were raided in Liverpool as part of a crackdown on human trafficking. Operation Mezaki was carried out following a tip off to police and came during a week of action against modern slavery.

Merseyside Police, the National Crime Agency and Immigration Control all took part along with the Red Cross who were on standby to deal with potential victims of human trafficking.

One of the raids were carried out at a property in Ashfield, Wavertree on Wednesday evening. Officers burst through the door after receiving no reply to a knock.

Intelligence had been received by the agencies that suggested a number of Eastern European women were living at the property and may have been trafficked into the country to be sexually exploited.

The house was made up of three self-contained flats that were all suspected of being involved.

During a briefing ahead of the raid officers entering the property were instructed to seize any items which may be linked to human trafficking. Those items could include mobile phones, bank details and transactions or identification. Officers were also told there might be vulnerable victims inside.
