The jury in the Hillfields pimp trial, where two men are accused of forcing a 17-year-old girl to work on the streets, has retired to consider its verdicts. Thomas Entwistle and Martin Cantle both deny threatening the teenager with violence if she refused to work as a prostitute in Coventry’s red light district.

Entwistle, 26, formerly of Warwick, but now of Dog Lane, Napton, and Cantle, 24, of Aldbourne Road, Radford, both deny two charges of causing or inciting child prostitution, controlling a child prostitute, arranging or facilitating child prostitution, and supplying the girl with cocaine.

A jury at Warwick Crown Court heard over two weeks’ worth of evidence and then closing speeches from the prosecution and barristers for both defendants. The judge has finished summing up the case and the 12 members of the jury have left the courtroom to decide upon their verdicts.

During the evidence, the court heard that Entwistle and Cantle forced the 17-year-old girl to sell her services as a sex worker on the streets of Hillfields in 2014. They took nearly every single penny she earned from her and even kept her held captive in a flat in Wyken - putting a duvet cover over her head as she struggled to breathe - prosecutor Robert Underwood said.

The jury also heard from the youngster’s foster carer at the time who said the teen grabbed a knife and threatened to kill herself after coming face-to-face with her alleged pimps at her foster home.

Two men are facing lengthy prison sentences after being found guilty of controlling a child prostitute. Thomas Entwistle and Martin Cantle pimped a 17-year-old girl on the streets of Hillfields, in Coventry, and supplied her with cocaine.

Both men had denied any wrongdoing throughout a four-week trial at Warwick Crown Court, with Entwistle, 26, saying the claims against them were lies. However, a jury returned guilty verdicts yesterday on the charges of controlling a child prostitute and supplying her with class A drugs.

Entwistle, formerly of Warwick, but now of Dog Lane, Napton, and Cantle, 24, of Aldbourne Road, Radford, are both now remanded in custody while the jury decides on the remaining charges of causing or inciting the teenage girl into prostitution.

The prosecution said during the trial that Entwistle and Cantle forced the 17-year-old in to sex work in Coventry’s red light district in 2014. Opening the case, prosecutor Robert Underwood said: “This case involves an allegation that these two men sought to recruit and then run as a prostitute in Coventry a young girl for their own gain.

He told the jury the girl was from south Warwickshire but had been in foster care from which she had absconded, sometimes ending up sleeping in derelict buildings and taking alcohol and drugs.

Two pimps who forced a 17-year-old girl to continue working as a prostitute in Coventry’s red light district have each been jailed for 11 years. Martin Cantle and Thomas Entwistle made the teenager work “night after night” on the streets of Hillfields and “swamped” her with cocaine. The evil pair “treated her as a slave in every way” and put into place a “wicked plan” to exploit her vulnerable position as a child prostitute.

After a four-week trial at Warwick Crown Court, Cantle, 24, of Aldbourne Road, Radford, and Entwistle, 26, formerly of Warwick, but now of Dog Lane, Napton, were both unanimously found guilty of controlling a child prostitute and supplying her with drugs.

They were found not guilty of causing or inciting the teenage girl into prostitution.

Sentencing them for seven years each for the prostitution offence and a further four years each for the drug offence, Judge Andrew Lockhart told Cantle and Entwistle: “You preyed on a vulnerable girl in care and exploited that to your advantage.

“For four months...night after night you forced her on to the highly dangerous area of Hillfields as a prostitute. You two controlled her life in every sense. You swamped her with drugs - you used her addiction to your advantage. You lied in interviews and you lied wholesale to this jury.”

A Sheffield man accused of prostituting young girls for his own gain, cries himself to sleep at night over the allegations, a court heard. It is alleged that Shane Whiteley of Weakland Crescent, Hackenthorpe forced Girl A to prostitute herself, both from his flat in Victoria Court, West Street and in the red light district of the city, and that he ‘had her raped’ when she refused to sell herself in 2009.

Whiteley told Sheffield Crown Court that he had only come into contact with Girl A, who was aged between 15 and 16-years-old at the time of the allegations, to sell her ‘a bit of draw’. The 30-year-old told the court he believed she was making the allegations up ‘for money’.

When prosecutor Peter Hampton asked Whiteley if Girl A’s reasons for making the allegations kept him up at night, Whiteley said: “I cry myself to sleep. I never did any of that. He added: "If any of this has happened why wouldn’t she have said it at the time? When I was living at Victoria Court they had cameras all over the place. If any of this was happening it would have been picked up. The girl is deluded in her head.”

Whiteley is alleged to have prostituted Girl A, who cannot be named for legal reasons, along with his younger brothers Christopher Whiteley, 23, and Matthew Whiteley, 24, both of Weakland Crescent, Hackenthorpe and their friend Andres Francis Edge, 25 of Wheatley Road, Parson Cross.

Mr Hampton told the court how on February 28, 2009 Whiteley was seen with his brother Christopher Whiteley and Girl A walking towards the red light district of Sheffield. He reiterated evidence previously given to the court by PC Batty who recalled stopping the group and taking the details of a man who gave Shane Whiteley’s name, his date of birth and his mother’s address in Parson Cross. Whiteley was living at the flat in Victoria Court at this time.

A 23-year-old on trial for child prostitution offences in Sheffield is a 'truthful' man who has never forced young girls to have sex with him or others, a court heard.

During her closing speech today, Christopher Whiteley's defence barrister Amanda Denton told Sheffield Crown Court that the version of events the 23-year-old, of Weakland Crescent, Hackenthorpe had given to police had been proven to be correct a number of times throughout the trial.

Whiteley faces 14 charges relating to the alleged rape and sexual assault of four teenage girls, and the conspiracy to rape and arrange child prostitution of another, all of which he denies.

The complainants were aged between 12 and 16 at the time of the alleged offences. Whiteley was aged 13 at the time of the first alleged offence, and was 16-years-old at the time of the final one

Ms Denton called into question the validity of the evidence provided by his victims, none of whom can be named for legal reasons. She told the court that Girl D, who Whiteley is alleged to have raped on at least four occasions, had given different accounts of what happened with Whiteley when speaking to police and under cross-examination in the trial.

Addressing the jury, she said: "Under interview when asked how often it was just you and him [Christopher Whiteley], she said 'not very many, maybe once or twice'. How does that sit with what you have on your indictment," continued Ms Denton, referring to the four counts of rape.

The accounts of two young girls who were allegedly pimped out by a child prostitution gang leader are 'a million miles from the truth', Sheffield Crown Court was told this morning. Amanda Spencer, previously of Canklow Road, Canklow, Rotherham is alleged to have pimped out two young girls, neither of whom can be named for legal reasons, in Sheffield between 2009 and 2012.

Spencer pimped Girl A, who was aged between 15 and 16-years-old at the time of the offending, to more than 50 men, it is alleged. The 25-year-old also faces charges relating to Girl D, who she allegedly sold to another defendant in this trial, Christopher Whiteley, on at least four occasions and pocketed the money in each instance.

The jury was told how Spencer was previously convicted of 16 offences relating to child prostitution in Sheffield in 2014.

In his closing defence speech to the jury, Amanda Spencer's barrister Dermot Hughes said: "You know she's been in the dock before. I ask you not to be blinded by that. She is on trial for these offences, not what's happened in the past. As for the case of Girl D. She [Amanda] says she doesn't really know her but says 'I didn't force her to do anything with Christopher Whiteley or any unknown man.

"With Girl A things are slightly different and she says 'if things have happened to Girl A, they are nothing to do with me'." "As much as anything you should consider not just what was said, but how it was said.

"Were they reliable? Was what they said consistent? Was what they were saying incredible? Were they [the prosecution] working to make conclusions? The prosecution don't concede that anything any of these complainants are saying could be wrong. It's black and white.

Four men and a woman involved in a Sheffield child prostitution ring that saw young girls pimped out to as many as 50 men have been found guilty of a string of offences.

Following a six week trial at Sheffield Crown Court, it took jurors just under three days to find brothers Christopher Whiteley, 23, Matthew Whiteley, 24 and Shane Whiteley, 30, all of Weakland Crescent, Hackenthorpe guilty of prostituting out a teenage girl in 2009.

Matthew Whiteley was also cleared of two counts of conspiracy to cause or incite child prostitution and one count of sex with a child under the age of 16.

Shane Whiteley was cleared of two counts conspiracy to cause or incite child prostitution

Christopher Whiteley, who was described by prosecutor Peter Hampton as one of the key players in the child prostitution ring, was also found guilty of four counts of rape against two girls aged between 12 and 14-years-old, of sexually assaulting and stealing from a girl aged between 12 and 13-years-old. He was cleared of two counts of conspiracy to cause or incite child prostitution, and four counts of rape.

Amanda Spencer, formerly of Canklow Road, Rotherham, is the other defendant Mr Hampton asserted played a key role in the abuse. The 26-year-old was found guilty of four counts of arranging child prostitution, relating to a 15-year-old girl.

During the trial, the court was told how the girl was pimped out to around 50 men by Spencer. One such man was 38-year-old Taleb Bapir who raped the girl when she refused to have sex with him as instructed by Amanda at his home in Verdon Street, Neepsend.

Sex abuse victims have been praised for the courage they showed in helping to land members of a child prostitution ring behind bars.

Four men and one woman have been found guilty this week of a string of child sexual exploitation offences in Sheffield relating to a child prostitution ring which operated in the city.

Brothers Christopher, Matthew and Shane Whiteley, along with Amanda Spencer and Taleb Bapir were convicted of a total of 15 offences relating to five victims who were aged between 12 and 17.

Sheffield Crown Court heard the brothers and associates targeted vulnerable young girls in Sheffield between 2005 and 2011. Their victims were plied with drink and drugs and showered with gifts, before being forced to have sex with members of the group and strangers. They were also threatened and subjected to violence.

They have been remanded in custody and are to be sentenced next month.

Peter Mann, head of the complex casework unit at the Crown Prosecution Service for Yorkshire and the Humber, said: “These defendants cynically targeted and sexually exploited young and vulnerable girls. It is hard to comprehend the magnitude of suffering they must have endured. “The guilty verdicts returned today are a testament to the courage of the victims in coming forward and giving evidence against their abusers.

“This case was very complex and involved months of painstaking analysis. With the victims’ help the CPS was able to build a strong prosecution case against these defendants, resulting in today’s verdicts.”

Three brothers involved in a Sheffield child prostitution ring, who were today sentenced to a total of 30 years in prison, used a council flat to prostitute a vulnerable teenage girl to dozens of men. Shane Whiteley, 30, Matthew Whiteley, 25, and Christopher Whiteley, 24, all of Weakland Crescent, Hackenthorpe, were all found guilty of one charge of child prostitution last month, relating to a girl who was aged between 16 and 17-years-old at the time.

Shane had only been out of prison for a matter of weeks in January 2009 when he started running a business dealing drugs from a council flat in Victoria Court, West Street that he had been allocated on release. The court heard how Shane used his brothers and co-defendants, Matthew and Christopher, to drum up trade for the cannabis business through the young people they mixed with at Castle Markets.

During this morning's sentencing, Judge Kelson QC told the court that it was through this cannabis business that Girl C, who suffers from learning difficulties, 'was unfortunate enough to fall into [the Whiteleys] web'.

He said: "She was a deeply vulnerable person. She was cynically groomed by all three of you. She was cynically exploited. She was prostituted out by you for many nights over several weeks."

The court was told how Girl C, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was initially drawn into their 'web' through the affection they showed her. The girl told her mother that she regarded Shane to be 'like a brother' to her, and that she believed he 'would not let anything happen to her'.

TWO men who forced a vulnerable child prostitute back on the streets night after night made an estimated £15,000 from their evil trade, a judge has heard. But Thomas Entwistle and Martin Cantle, who are now both serving 11 year prison sentences, blew their ill-gotten gains on expensive clothes, food and other girls, and have nothing left.

Entwistle, 26, of Dog Lane, Napton, and Cantle, 24, of Oldbourne Road, Coventry, had been found guilty in February of controlling a child prostitute and supplying her with cocaine. After jailing them following the trial at Warwick Crown Court, Judge Andrew Lockhart QC adjourned a hearing under the Proceeds of Crime Act for an investigation into their finances.

At the resumed hearing, with Entwistle in the dock and Cantle appearing via a video link from HMP Long Lartin, prosecutor Paul Prior said the relevant period for assessing their benefit from the girl’s prostitution was from mid-April to mid-July 2014. “A benefit of £15,000 has been assessed, on the basis of an average earning of £250 a night, and based on a five-day week over the course of that three months.”

But Mr Prior said neither man, who the jury heard had blown the money they took from the girl on clothes, food and other girls, had any available assets. So Judge Lockhart ruled they had each had a benefit of £7,500 – and ordered that a nominal £1 should be confiscated from each of them, with one day in prison in default. By making such a nominal order under the Proceeds of Crime Act, it means further sums can be seized from them if they have any assets in the future.

Robery Underwood, prosecuting during the trial, had said the girl was from the Leamington area but had been in foster care from which she had absconded, sometimes ending up sleeping in derelict buildings and taking alcohol and drugs.
