I once read a book by Richard Mccann about how the death of his mother (Killed by sutcliffe) effected him and his sister's life forever. for me it put it all into perspective that these people should get life and never be realeased, as the consequences go on and on for the family and friends.

I think the book is called just a boy.

In cases where it is beyond all doubt, the death penalty should be brought back. These people take the lives of others and yet it is the country that has to pay to keep them.

Yorkshire Ripper Peter Sutcliffe awaits tariff decision

Postby honeydoguk » 16 Jul 2010, 06:25

A High Court judge is to rule later on whether Peter Sutcliffe, the Yorkshire Ripper, will ever be released.

Ex-Bradford lorry driver Sutcliffe, 64, now known as Peter Coonan, was convicted in 1981 of murdering 13 women and attempting to murder seven others.

He received 20 life sentences and is detained at Broadmoor high-security psychiatric hospital in Berkshire.

They have to be bonkers to even slightly consider releasing him! people that commit such bad crimes like that were never right in the head from the moment they were born, he would always be a danger to the public and a huge expense to the tax payer as no doubt he will have to have protection and have a new identity.

Such is the way of things these days, if they refused to hold a review he would complain that it was a violation of his human rights! - Let's hope it is all just a rubber stamping exercise.

BTW. I've got to go and play table tennis at Broadmoor next month! (thankfully outside of the security fencing and not against any inmates).
Impossibly trying to balance Time, Money & Energy...

The devil is in the detail.

Mr Justice Mitting ruled at the High Court in London that the 63-year-old former lorry driver should never be eligible for parole.
But he also disclosed that a special mental health tribunal had concluded last week that he was now safe to transfer him to conditions of “lesser security” after years of treatment for his paranoid schizophrenia.
Psychiatrists believe he no longer poses a serious threat to the public.

And, lets be fair, psychiatrists have an unblemished track record in this area!! Perhaps as a matter of course any crim excused by a psychiatrist should by default have to live with the psychiatrists family for 12 months as part of their rehabilitation.
I wonder how many would be open to putting their money where their mouth was?

The main submission made on behalf of Sutcliffe was that the degree of his responsibility "was lowered by mental disorder or mental disability". The judge said a psychiatrist report stated Sutcliffe had been on anti-psychotic medicine since 1993, which had successfully contained his mental illness. But he said he did not accept that any reduction from a whole life term would be appropriate on the ground of "exceptional progress".
