Only me speculating but given the height of the assailent, the fact that he was pre-armed and then the apparent non-repetiton of the crime since, could it have been a hired Hit Man ?

Surely an ordinary punter doesn't raid the kitchen drawer for a knife if he knows he's at any risk of being stopped for kerb crawling, or am I out of touch ?

She had 19 stab wounds to her neck and back
very unlikely. Certainly not a professional hit.
This is very close and intimate. Not a detached Job.
Too much to go wrong, too much chance of DNA being left.

There's a video interview with some of the girls from Sheffield's red light area on The BBC site

Police appeal for help to catch Sheffield prostitutes killer

Postby admin » 06 Nov 2013, 22:27

Detectives investigating the murder of a Sheffield prostitute 12 years ago have issued a new appeal to help catch the killer. Michaela Hague was stabbed to death on Bonfire Night 2001, but her attacker remains at large. The 25-year-old mother-of-one, from Pitsmoor, was picked up from Bower Street in the city’s red light district and murdered on a remote car park at Spitalfields.

Detective Superintendent Lisa Ray, who is leading the hunt for the killer, said: “A major investigation room was set up after the incident and teams of detectives worked tremendously hard, including having a reconstruction featured on the BBC’s Crimewatch programme. Despite all this, Michaela’s murder remains undetected.

“I still believe the answer to this crime lies within the local community, though the perpetrator may have moved elsewhere. Someone, somewhere, must know something. Bonfire Night is a memorable event in the year’s calendar. Please cast your mind back to that evening and let us know if there’s any scrap of information that will help the enquiry.

Police chiefs are no closer to solving the high profile murder of a Sheffield prostitute who was stabbed to death on Bonfire Night 13 years ago - revealing there are no detectives currently working on the case.

Michaela Hague was 25 years old when she was stabbed to death while working the streets of Sheffield on November 5, 2001. The mum-of-one, from Pitsmoor, was stabbed to death 19 times in her neck and back after being picked up from Bower Street, off Corporation Street, in the city centre.

Fellow prostitutes told police she was picked up by a punter but the next time she was seen she was found in a pool of blood. A sex worker told officers she saw a car, believed to be an old style blue Ford Sierra, driving off from the scene.

A police officer alerted to the attack, on a dark car park off Spitalfields, spoke to Michaela before she was rushed to hospital, where she later died.

PC Richard Twigg jotted down Michaela’s description of her attacker on his hand. She told him the man was white, clean shaven, wore a wedding ring and where he picked her up from. Michaela told the officer he was around 38 years old, about 6ft tall and was wearing a blue fleece and glasses.

A Sheffield woman is convinced she came face-to-face with the murderer of a city prostitute just days before she was killed. The Pitsmoor woman – who is too frightened to be named – had a ‘strange’ confrontation with a man in Spring Street, in the city centre, a week before Michaela Hague was found stabbed to death nearby while working the streets on November 5, 2001.

On the eve of the anniversary of Michaela’s murder, the woman has spoken out in an effort to find new leads in the unsolved case. The woman, now 49, had taken a wrong turn on the way to a friend’s house and was turning her Citroen car around when a man approached the vehicle at around 9pm.

For five minutes he stood in front of the car, preventing the woman from getting away. She said: “If I had screamed or shouted anything, who knows what would have happened. I think showing him that I wasn’t scared saved my life.

“The whole street was quite well lit and as I moved my car around he was just there. Every time I tried to move my car he stood in front of it. He wanted me to wind my window down. I eventually got away. It was definitely strange. I remember what happened quite clearly.”

The woman made it to her friend’s house and contacted South Yorkshire Police. Several years later, she contacted detectives again after seeing a mugshot in a newspaper.

I stayed in Sheffield for a number of years and remember that murder. It scared a lot of people but Jodie honey no DNA was ever found at the time as far as I can remember, which shocked me. I know it shook a lot of working girls because of it ferociousness. Pitsmoor has a murder ever other day but not normally as ferocious as that.

Lying in a pool of blood after being stabbed 19 times, Michaela Hague managed to whisper a brief description of her attacker to the first police officer on the scene after she was found slumped on the ground following a knife attack.

But despite the clues and help from an eyewitness who saw the attacker driving away in a old-style blue Ford Sierra, Michaela’s killer has never been found.

The mum-of-one, who had a five-year-old son when she died, was working as a prostitute to fund her heroin use, when she was picked up by a punter in Bower Street in the city centre and driven to an isolated car park on nearby Spitalfields, off Nursery Street.

Michaela, aged 25, from Pitsmoor, was left for dead after being stabbed 19 times in her neck and back on Bonfire Night 2001. Before taking her final breaths, she told PC Richard Twigg that her attacker was white, clean-shaven, wore a wedding ring and where he picked her up from. She said he was around 38, about 6ft and was wearing a blue fleece and glasses.

Another sex worker described the car she saw driving away from Michaela as she lay slumped on the ground after the frenzied knife attack.
