Boy George has described a violent "psychotic episode" led to him keeping a man prisoner in his flat for which he was later jailed.
The Culture Club singer and DJ broke down in tears during an interview with Piers Morgan for Morgan’s show Life Stories. In a preview clip the singer explained how he shackled sex worker Audun Carlsen to a wall and whipped him with a chain while screaming abuse at him in the midst of a $500-a-day (£400) heroin habit.
George, real name George O' Dowd, was jailed for 15 months for the violent attack which he attributed to a "psychotic episode."
During the 2009 trial the jury was told the singer had invited Norwegian model/escort Carlsen into his bedroom after a naked photo session, during which they took cocaine. He then ambushed him with the help of an accomplice, after believing Carlsen had attempted to hack into his computer.
"I sent myself to prison. I told the police why I did what I did," he told Morgan, reports The Daily Mail website. "In hindsight I was having a psychotic episode. I was a drug addict so I can't sit here and say my reasons for doing it were founded in any way. But I told the truth. I said, 'This is why I did it. I was having a paranoid episode'. I have always denied beating the guy."
During sentencing the judge said the offence was "so serious that only an immediate sentence of imprisonment can be justified."
While George is remorseful for the dark episode, he has revealed he hasn't apologised to the victim.
"I don't think it would make any difference. I always felt like not talking about it was dignified," he shrugged to Morgan. "All of it was the drugs. There is no way on God's earth this would happen if I had not been on drugs.
"I kind of took responsibility but in my way. It is in my nature to spill my guts. I never really tell lies and sometimes it has worked against me."http://www.sundayworld.com/entertainmen ... ort-attack
